Student Visa Overview

All foreign students applying for PhD or other programs at any of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), including IIT Indore, require a valid passport recognized by the Indian Mission. ASEAN students applying for fellowships must also obtain a student visa. The visa is granted for up to 5 years or the duration of the course, whichever is shorter.

Eligibility for Student Visa

• International students pursuing regular, full-time academic studies in India.
• Students undertaking industrial training, summer projects, or internships.
• Provisional student visa (valid for 6 months) for those exploring admission or taking admission tests.
• Proof of admission to a full-time regular academic course at an IIT and evidence of financial support.
• “No Objection Certificate” from the Ministry of Health for medical or paramedical courses.
• Spouse and dependent family members must apply for an Entry Visa (not a Tourist Visa), with a termination date aligned with the principal visa holder’s visa.

Visa Application Procedure

The visa application process involves the following steps:

• Complete the online visa application at www.indianvisaonline.gov.in.
• Print the completed application and submit it in person at the Indian Mission counter along with supporting documents, including:
  • Original Admission Letter from IIT Indore.
  • Last Education Certificate.
  • Additional documents as requested by the consular officer.
• Passport: Must have a minimum validity of six months.
• Photographs: Two recent color, matte (not glossy), passport-size photos (front pose, white background). One photo should be pasted in the specified place, and the other stapled to the form. Upload one photo online.
• Signatures: Applicants must sign in the signature box below the photograph. For minors, a parent may sign.
• Biometrics: Taken during application submission.

Visa Extension Process

To extend a student visa, applicants must submit two sets of the following documents to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) or Foreigners Registration Office (FRO). Additional documents may be requested for verification.

• Original valid Passport and Visa.
• Bonafide certificate from IIT Indore for the academic year, mentioning nationality.
• Four passport-size photographs (4 cm x 4 cm, color, white background, ears visible, no spectacles or caps).
• Bank statement demonstrating financial self-sufficiency for one year in India.
• Marks sheet or examination passing certificate for the last academic year.
• Copies of Passport (photo page, validity page, page with arrival stamp of Indian immigration).
• Copy of Indian visa.
• Attendance proof or certificate for regular class attendance.
• Course fees receipt.
• Admission/eligibility certificate from IIT Indore.
• No Objection Certificate (NoC) from the previous institution if changing universities/colleges.
• Proof of residence (e.g., electricity bill, telephone bill, leave & license agreement, or company accommodation proof).
